GRANFONDO VIA DEL SALE, SELLE ITALIA
April 6th 2025
Five climbs and 2,400 metres of elevation gain – a truly inspiring race for those who have the energy and strength to conquer a distance of 174 km. The first climb up to Montecavallo is tackled from Meldola.
Starting with a Gourmet short ride, it's perfect even for non-expert cyclists who wants to join their first Granfondo.
Taking you on a 10 km long stretch of road with a maximum gradient of 12%, it is a first taster for your legs. You will then be able to enjoy the climb up to Montefinocchio, a stunning stretch of almost 7 km to the backdrop of beautiful trees in full bloom. However, the climb that really leaves you breathless is the one up to Montevecchio, also referred to as the ‘Cima Pantani’, Pantani’s Peak. The maximum gradient of 14% is tackled without that much effort… but then you get face to face with the famous writing on the tarmac: VAI MARCO…FORZA PIRATA (the words once encouraging the big Marco Pantani at this particular stage of the route). Collinello is the last Romagna hilltop jewel you can take home in your memory, the last 6 km of the race then still need to be approached with some respect before you can enjoy the very last stretch all the way to the seafront at Cervia.
The other two courses have been confirmed, too: the medium route (118 km) with three climbs, one up to Montecavallo and the other up to Montecchio and Colinello, for those who are looking for a fun challenge, also suitable for those without much training, as well as the short route (77 km) for those who don’t want to overdo it and love cycling while enjoying the beautiful landscape the Romagna region has to offer in spring.
Friends or family members accompanying the cyclists should by no means miss the Gourmet route covering only 40 km of flat road, interspersed with several stops where you can taste typical, local delicacies.
